Saint-Hyacinthe Technopole announces its 2017-2019 strategic plan

Saint-Hyacinthe Technopole announces its 2017-2019 strategic plan

Saint-Hyacinthe Technopole’s Board Chair, Bernard Forget, and General Manager, André Barnabé, announced the organization’s very first strategic plan. Recently adopted by its board of directors, this plan outlines the organization’s economic development objectives for the next three years.

“The plan we are presenting today is the result of careful analysis and extensive reflection by the organization and its permanent team members. It sets priorities that will enable the Technopole to meet its overarching objectives with the help of its partners. It considers the global context of fierce competition between the different business and tourism sectors on regional, national and international levels. A reality in which investments are increasingly vital and increasingly mobile,” said Barnabé.

The plan lays out the 11 broad strategic guidelines below, which cover each of the areas for which Saint-Hyacinthe Technopole is responsible: industry, commerce and tourism.

  • Provide commercial leadership
  • Drawn on expertise to support a balanced commercial offer that respects living environments
  • Develop the City of Agri-Food, Veterinary and Agri-Environmental Biotechnology technological park
  • Target, prospect and attract new businesses
  • Optimize Saint-Hyacinthe Technopole’s real estate assets
  • Optimally develop the industrial parks and industrial spaces
  • Drawn on expertise to support a distinctive tourism offer
  • Position the greater Saint-Hyacinthe area as a tourist destination
  • Provide leadership on how to best welcome visitors
  • Help implement structuring projects
  • Develop Saint-Hyacinthe Technopole’s image as a leader of economic development and as a prime business and tourist destination

These strategies are accompanied by broad measures that will help the organization fulfill its mission: to develop Saint-Hyacinthe’s economy by attracting new industrial, commercial and tourism investments and contributing to the growth of existing businesses on its territory.

While feasible, the organization’s goals are also ambitious. The plan therefore includes 11 performance indicators that Saint-Hyacinthe Technopole will monitor to assess its performance. These include creating 1,500 new manufacturing jobs over the next three years, maintaining the level of commercial investments at over $20 M per year and putting Saint-Hyacinthe back on the list of Quebec’s top 10 business destinations by welcoming over 80 large conventions and events a year by 2019.

With a final version adopted on September 15, 2016, this strategic document will be supported by an annual action plan developed by Saint-Hyacinthe Technopole’s team of professionals. The action plan will outline the major projects and initiatives to be implemented over the next several months.

Remember that this is the very first strategic plan for Saint-Hyacinthe Technopole, an organization created in April 2015 by integrating the assets of the Corporation de développement commercial et de Tourisme et congrès St-Hyacinthe (Saint-Hyacinthe commercial, tourism and convention development corporation) in the City of Biotechnology.

“We have adopted a bold plan, with unique and innovative means of creating economic and social wealth for our community and quality jobs for the tourism, commerce and industrial sectors,” Forget added.
